Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship after the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the last five games to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional victory, took control to create a final set.

Moutet saved 4 early chances in a close third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
