Fall Classic Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extra-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run drew a aggregate over 50 million viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB announced this is the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game secured 27.33M viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement over the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game landed in 13th place.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game drew 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English program in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two straight years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete US average reached 16.1M. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise over last year and the network’s strongest postseason ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in 16 different tongues.
